Salt Dough Project DIY

It's been rainy the past couple days so I decided to make something out of salt dough. I saw an image on facebook and was inspired to do a mommy and me handpring. Seriously so precious.

Here's the recipe:
2 C Flour
1 C salt
1 C water

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl. Slowly add the water and keep mixing. If the dough is too dry, add more water. It it is too sticky, add more flour. Knead dough on a floured surface and roll into a ball.

Use a rolling pin to flatten it about 1/2 in thick. Cut the edges into any shape using a knife.

Make your hand prints.

Put in on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. I made the mistake of adding PAM on the sheet because I was worried it would stick. It created weird oil stains, don't make the same mistake that I did.

I also did a footprint. Bake for 3 hours, flip it over and continue baking another 1-2 hours. Keep checking it to make sure you don't over cook and burn it.

Wait for it to dry completely before you paint it. I waited 24 hours.

I used acrylic paints. I painted the small hand print first, then the big one, and then the boarder. Choose any colors you want, have fun with it!

It's not perfect but it's perfect to me.
