Oh eczema!
Frankie has rough patches on his stomach, back, legs and sometimes his face and arms. The dry winter air definitely made it worse. I was using Cetaphil products on him: the body wash and lotion. I would put a layer of Vaseline on before bedtime and lotion him up during every diaper change. But it didn't help and I really didn't want to use the steroid cream.
A few weeks ago at CVS, I decided to try a different product. It's called Exerderm. They have a whole line of products: boy wash, lotion, baby oil, baby shampoo and intensive moisturizer.
After less than a week of using these products as well as using a cool mist humidifier every night, his rough patches have significantly gotten better. It has now been a month of using these products and the worst patch on his leg is no longer red and is smoother to the touch. His back and stomach are almost patch free. No more red cheeks, either.
It's such a relief to see a product that actually works. It has to be a daily regimen. We went away for 4 days and his skin went back to the way it started. Consistency is key.
The weather is getting nicer so I hope that will also help clear his skin of rough patches. So far, I haven't seen a connection to the eczema and any food allergies. Knock on wood.
Every child is different so this may not work for you or your child. Eczema is tricky and kind of expensive as you try different products in hopes that it will work.
